After an Earthquake

1. Don�t panic. You should expect aftershocks. Do not run outside yet. Be prepared for possible additional shocks.

2. Know where you keep your flashlights, they are the best type of light after an earthquake. Do Not light matches, cigarettes, or turn on your electrical switches. Do nothing that will cause an electrical spark.

3. Protect your hands and feet in all areas near broken glass. Wear gloves and heavy shoes.

4. Check for injured or trapped people. Be prepared for emergency first aid.

5. Check for fires or fire hazards.

6. Check utility lines and appliances for damage. Should you suspect damaged electric lines or a broken gas line--turn off at the main valve or switch. Should you smell gas be sure you have turned off the main valve, open windows and leave the house.

7. Draw a moderate quantity of cold water in bathtub or other container. It may be necessary to turn off the water at the main valve if you suspect water line damage.

8. Listen for disaster news on your car radio or battery radio.

9. Before flushing of toilets, check to see that they are intact.

10. Be prepared for possible evacuation.

11. Watch for other possible danger which may follow an earthquake ie, fires, floods, or landslides.

12. Drive your car only if it is absolutely necessary. If it is necessary to drive, drive with utmost caution.

13. Do not eat or drink from opened containers near shattered glass.

14. STAY CALM!
